Official statement regarding the telephone conversation between President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
This morning, the President of the United States, Joe Biden, had a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu. The Prime Minister congratulated the United States on the occasion of Independence Day and thanked President Biden for his constant and steadfast support for Israel’s security.
President Biden and Prime Minister Netanyahu discussed ongoing efforts to reach a cease-fire agreement and the release of hostages. These efforts were outlined by President Biden and supported by the UN Security Council, the G7 countries and other states of the world. President Biden approved the Prime Minister’s decision to authorize his negotiators to engage with mediators from the United States, Qatar, and Egypt to finalize the deal.
President Biden reiterated his unwavering commitment to Israel’s security, especially in the face of threats from Iranian-backed terrorist groups such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah.
The leaders also welcomed the upcoming meeting, scheduled for July 15, between their national security teams in the format of the Strategic Advisory Group, which underscores the importance of continued cooperation between the United States and Israel on national security issues.
