Investigation into the Killing of “Nukhba” Militant
On the evening of July 4th, the court allowed the publication of information about an ongoing investigation into three civilians suspected of killing a “Nukhba” militant involved in the October 7th massacre. This information has sparked numerous social media posts supporting the suspects.
Status of the Suspects
Two suspects have been released under house arrest. The third remains in custody. Their names have not been authorized for publication, but journalists are aware of them.
Interview with a Suspect
On the evening of July 5th, Ynet published an interview with one of the suspects – 22-year-old S. from Elkana, who is serving house arrest at his 73-year-old grandfather’s house. The full interview can be read on Ynet’s website.
S.’s Account of October 7th Events
S., who served in combat units during his mandatory military service, recounts that on the morning of October 7, 2023, upon learning of a terrorist attack from the Gaza Strip, he, along with a police acquaintance and another friend, rushed to the areas bordering Gaza. By 8:24 AM, they were in the combat zone at the Sha’ar HaNegev junction. According to S., they engaged in a fight with terrorists, alongside special forces who later perished. S.’s friend was wounded in the shoulder but continued fighting. S. explains that he had to fight in various locations and evacuate people from the combat zone, including a child. He confirmed that he detained terrorists and handed them over to Shin Bet officers, documenting each detention on camera.
Arrests and Searches
In the Ynet interview, S. states that he fought in the south for almost two weeks, and shortly after returning home, the police searched his house and announced an investigation. There was another search later, and recently he was arrested. S. insists he is cooperating with the investigation and considers the suspicions against him absurd. He also feels betrayed, as someone who fought against terrorists and saved lives is now accused of murder.
Unlicensed Weapon
The publication notes that S. had no prior convictions. The police claim that during the search, they found a weapon in his house without a license. S. denies any wrongdoing and is confident that all charges will be dropped.
Notably, S. mentions that he is not acquainted with the other two suspects. He met one of them by chance in the combat zone.
