SSU exposes large-scale scheme of embezzlement of funds from the Armed Forces of Ukraine for firewood procurement

The Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine exposed a large-scale scheme of embezzlement of funds intended for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Members of three organised criminal groups, including officials of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and entrepreneurs from Zaporizhzhia region, entered into agreements for the purchase of firewood at inflated prices. As a result of the pre-trial investigation, more than UAH 15 million was withdrawn in cash. The BES detectives have already served 13 people with a notice of suspicion, and seized assets worth over UAH 10 million.
