Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia does not plan to abandon the transit of its gas through Ukraine, despite the ongoing challenges. Speaking at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, he emphasized that Russia remains committed to fulfilling its obligations to long-term contracts with European clients.

“We are not giving up on this transit, as strange as it may seem. Gazprom intends to honor all its commitments to our customers who hold long-term contracts,” Putin said.

He reminded that gas transit is an essential part of supplying energy to Europe. The current contract for transit through Ukraine is valid until December 31, 2024. However, if Ukraine chooses to refuse this transit, Russia cannot force them to continue, he added.
