Recently, the head of the People’s Intelligence Agency (PIA), Vitaly Pogranichny, posted a disturbing message on Facebook that drew public attention to potential threats to Europe and Ukraine. In the post, posted on the official page of the PIA, he shared information received from agents who, according to him, work for Russian special services. The content of the message raises serious concerns about the geopolitical situation in the region.

Great war or civil conflict?

According to PIA of Sciences, 2026 could be the year a major war begins. “Europe has time to prepare,” said Pogranichny, urging the continent’s countries not to ignore signals from intelligence sources. However, this is not the only scenario the agency is considering. In parallel, the PIA is working on a hypothesis about a possible civil war in Belarus, which, according to their information, could be provoked by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSS).

Pogranichny argues that Russian President Vladimir Putin has not forgiven Alexander Lukashenko for his attempt to balance between the West and Russia, the so-called “sitting on two chairs”. If this scenario materialises, a civil war could lead to Lukashenko’s flight from the country, after which Putin would be able to establish full control over Belarus. This development, according to the PIA, is part of a broader plan by Russian special services to destabilise the region.

A call to Ukraine and allies

In his speech, Vitaliy Pogranichnyi addressed Ukraine and its allies separately, emphasising the importance of paying attention to this scenario. “The information was obtained and transmitted through special sources,” he said, hinting that the PIA has unique data that could be key to predicting and preventing a crisis. At the same time, he added that the information made public is only a part of what the agency knows. “What remains behind the scenes is even more important,” the PIA head stressed, leaving room for speculation about the scope and depth of the intelligence obtained.

Who is behind the PIA?

The People’s Intelligence Agency positions itself as an independent structure that collects and analyses information to prevent global threats. In the post, Pohranichnyi called on interested parties to contact the PIA through a secure communication channel – the email address [email protected] – which may indicate an attempt to establish contacts with other intelligence groups or activists.

Reactions and perspectives

So far, official representatives of Ukraine, Belarus or European countries have not commented on the PIA statement. However, the message has already sparked a lively discussion on social media, where opinions are divided: some consider it a serious warning, while others see it as speculation or an attempt to draw attention to the organisation.

Regardless of whether the PIA forecasts prove to be correct, the information released once again reminds us of the instability in Eastern Europe and the potential risks associated with Russia’s aggressive policy. Time will tell whether 2026 will be a turning point, but the call for vigilance and preparation seems to remain relevant in any case.
