On 28 April 2025, Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Asman posted an emotional video message in the form of a song on his Facebook page addressed to President of the United States Donald Trump. In his message, the rabbi called on the American leader to support Ukraine in achieving a just and lasting peace.
The song, sung by Moshe Asman, is accompanied by a striking video sequence that captures the tragic consequences of Russian strikes on Ukraine, including the attack on Kyiv on 24 April 2025, which killed 12 people and injured nearly 100. The images of destruction and suffering underscore the gravity of the situation and reinforce the rabbi’s call to fight for light and justice.
“My appeal to the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, is to help Ukraine achieve a just and lasting peace,” Moshe Asman wrote in a post. In the lyrics, he refers to Trump as a man who is watched by the whole world, calling for the line between good and evil to be prevented from being blurred: “You’re the one the whole world is watching, every move you make, everything you do. Do not let the line between good and evil be blurred. The light will always rise, the darkness will not prevail. Donald Trump, it’s time to fight for the light.”
The song also criticises Russia, which the rabbi accuses of seeking “blood and fire” and building a “throne on fear and hatred”. Asman calls on Trump to “destroy the evil empire” and stop the pain, stressing that “the key is in his hands.”
Moshe Asman, the chief rabbi of the Brodsky Synagogue in Kyiv and head of the All-Ukrainian Congress of Jewish Hasidic Religious Communities, is known for his active support of Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war. He remained in Kyiv during the Russian invasion, volunteering and helping the victims. The rabbi’s personal tragedy – the death of his adopted son Matityahu (Anton) Samborsky, who was killed at the front in 2024 – adds a special emotional depth to his address.
Moshe Asman has previously demonstrated support for international leaders who advocate peace. In particular, at his invitation, Pastor Mark Burns, Donald Trump’s spiritual adviser, visited Ukraine and saw firsthand the consequences of the war in Bucha, Irpin and Borodyanka.
The rabbi’s video message has received a wide response on social media. Users praised his sincerity and powerful message. “It’s a cry of the soul that needs to be heard,” wrote one commenter on X. Asman’s song became not only a religious but also a social call to world leaders to unite for peace in Ukraine.
