Kyiv, 12 April 2025 – On the eve of Passover, one of the most important Jewish holidays, Chief Rabbi of Kyiv Jonathan Markowitz sent warm greetings to Ukrainians and the Jewish community around the world. In his message, he emphasised the deep symbolism of the holiday, which this year comes at a special time for Ukraine.
“Dear friends, we sincerely congratulate you on the Passover holiday! It is one of the most profound holidays that reminds us of the power of freedom, the importance of memory and the value of spiritual liberation,” said Rabbi Markowitz. According to him, Passover is not only a remembrance of the historic Israeli exodus from Egypt, but also a universal symbol of the struggle for freedom and overcoming personal and social limitations.
In his address, the Chief Rabbi stressed that in today’s world, when Ukraine is facing the challenges of war and the struggle for its independence, the significance of Passover takes on a special meaning. “This holiday is about our every step towards inner integrity, about the strength of the spirit that helps us overcome boundaries,” he added.
The rabbi wished everyone that these holidays would bring light, peace and joy to their homes, and called for a kosher and cheerful celebration. “Hag Pesach samaach! ” he concluded his greeting.
As Ukraine continues to defend its freedom, Rabbi Markowitz’s words are a reminder of the power of faith and community. Passover 5785 brings people together in the hope of peace and spiritual rebirth.
