President Zelensky Visits Troops on the Eastern Front in Donetsk Region

Президент України Володимир Зеленський

On Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, along with high-ranking military officials, visited troops in the Donetsk region on the eastern front, Reuters reports.

Zelensky recorded a video address in the city of Pokrovsk, at a section of the front where some of the fiercest battles have taken place during the invasion, which began 28 months ago.

“Donetsk region. Together with our fighters, together with Commander-in-Chief Syrskyi and the new Commander of the Joint Forces General Hnatov. Today I officially introduced Andriy Hnatov to everyone responsible for the defense in the Donetsk region. We heard reports directly from the front line,” the Kyiv leader wrote on Facebook.

The President of Ukraine thanked the soldiers fighting on the front line, as well as the medics. Zelensky also noted that the people of Donetsk face significant challenges, while criticizing Ukrainian officials for not visiting settlements near the front line.

“There will be a separate conversation in Kyiv, especially with officials who should be here and in other places near the front line — in difficult communities where people need immediate solutions. Solutions are not visible from Kyiv. I was surprised that some relevant officials haven’t been here for six months or more. I will draw appropriate conclusions about them,” Zelensky said.
