Zakharova’s Reaction to Katz’s Comments

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has responded to a recent statement by Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz. Yesterday, Katz commented on social media platform “X” regarding Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s threats of potential Turkish military intervention in Israel.

“Erdogan is following in Saddam Hussein’s footsteps by threatening Israel with an attack. He should remember what happened and what became of him,” Katz wrote on “X,” accompanying his statement with an illustrative image.

Historical Perspective and Provocative Questions

In response, Zakharova took to “Telegram,” referring to the internationally recognized war criminal Saddam Hussein as a “legitimate leader of a sovereign state.”

“As far as I remember, what ‘happened in Iraq’ was an invasion by the US, the UK, and other NATO countries, as well as many of their allies, under false pretenses. Before this, the US government stubbornly lied and propagated its false claims about Iraq supposedly having weapons of mass destruction. This was followed by the illegal occupation of Iraq by Western forces, the criminal murder of the legitimate leader of a sovereign state, a series of insane executions and repressions against officials and civilians, and long-term mocking of Iraqi statehood,” Zakharova stated, presenting her version of the events from 18 years ago.

“No one even counted how many civilians died — figures are cited in the hundreds of thousands and even a million. Displaced Iraqi soldiers went underground and, with Western involvement, transformed into ISIS. What happened due to US actions in Iraq has become synonymous with the absolute evil of American foreign policy, its criminal nature, and destructive direction,” continued the Russian diplomat.

Zakharova then posed a provocative question to Israel, represented by Israel Katz: “Do these words from the Israeli minister imply endorsement of such international activities?”

Meanwhile, the Turkish Foreign Ministry’s press service also had a restless night, publishing an angry post in response to Katz’s statement on “X.”

The situation is escalating, with each side continuing to express their views in the public domain, indicating a high level of tension in international relations.
