US President Joe Biden, unexpectedly withdrawing his candidacy from the 2024 presidential election, announced his support for Kamala Harris as the candidate of the Democratic Party. In his address, published on the X social network on Sunday, July 21, Biden said: “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energy on fulfilling the duties of the president until the end of my term.”

Biden expressed his satisfaction with his selection of Kamala Harris as vice president four years ago, calling it “the best decision I ever made.” He added: “Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement to Kamala as our party’s candidate this year.”

After withdrawing his candidacy, Biden will focus on domestic and international affairs, including completing important legislative initiatives and supporting international allies.

Biden’s statement caused different reactions among the US political establishment. US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has predicted that the Democratic Party will nominate Kamala Harris, noting that she is “easier to beat than Biden.” He added: “Harris does not have enough support among voters, which makes her vulnerable.”

On the other hand, many Democratic leaders welcomed Biden’s decision. Senator Bernie Sanders said: “Kamala Harris is a powerful candidate who can unite the party and the country. Her experience and dedication to the cause of human rights make her an ideal candidate for the post of president.”

It is also important to note that Harris has already begun active preparations for the elections, meeting with voters and presenting her program. Among its priorities are the reform of the health care system, strengthening the economy, combating climate change, and protecting human rights.

In addition, according to The New York Times, Harris plans to expand his efforts to combat hate-based violence and introduce new laws aimed at protecting the rights of minorities. She also promises to increase funding for education and implement programs to support small businesses.

This political move could have far-reaching implications for the future political landscape of the US, and all eyes are now on Kamala Harris and her next steps in this important presidential race.
