The prosecutor’s office has filed serious charges against a 30-year-old divorced father from East Jerusalem who abducted his two children from his ex-wife and hid them in the Shuafat refugee camp. He planned to smuggle them to Nablus. After the abduction, he did not visit the children, who were told that their mother had died.

According to the indictment, after the parents’ divorce, the two children, aged one and a half and two and a half years, were under their mother’s care. However, the father was dissatisfied with this arrangement and decided to abduct them. At work, he met a woman to whom he frequently complained about his ex-wife and how poorly she treated the children. Over time, he convinced her to “help save the children.”

The man took the children for the weekend as usual, and then asked his ex-wife to let the children stay with him longer. She agreed, and he handed the children over to his work colleague, who transported them to Nablus, to the house of her son and daughter-in-law. Over the week, the accused did not visit his children, who were staying with strangers in Shuafat, nor did he call them or check on their well-being.

When the children cried and asked to see their mother, the accused’s “helpers” told them that their mother had died.

Meanwhile, the mother tried to find out from her ex-husband where the children were and when he would return them. The man avoided answering and then claimed that he had already returned them and that it was she who should know where the children were.

The mother reported the case to the police, and the man was detained for questioning, during which he claimed not to know where the children were, asserting that they had disappeared. He also blamed his ex-wife for their disappearance.

A week after the abduction, the police retrieved the children and returned them to their mother. During the operation, which involved special forces, camp residents resisted and began throwing stones and bottles at the officers. One of the officers was injured in the leg.
