US President Donald Trump had a lengthy and productive phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which could become a landmark event for the further settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. The American leader announced this on his Truth Social page, stressing that the conversation was “very productive” and touched on many important topics, including the situation in Ukraine.
According to Trump, the two leaders expressed their willingness to work to prevent millions of deaths that could result from further hostilities and agreed to immediately begin negotiations on a peaceful resolution of the conflict. They also agreed to pay personal visits to each other and to involve Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the negotiation process.
The US president immediately appointed several senior officials, including Secretary of State Mark Rubio and CIA Director John Ratcliffe, to lead the negotiating team. “I believe that these efforts will lead to a successful conclusion, hopefully soon,” – Trump said.
Responding to the conversation, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the conversation lasted an hour and a half and was held in a constructive atmosphere. He confirmed that Russia and the United States intend to continue personal contacts and cooperation in resolving the Ukrainian issue. Putin expressed hope for a high-level meeting soon and invited Trump to Moscow.
This step could open a new chapter in relations between the two countries and give a chance for a peaceful resolution of the long-standing conflict.
