Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani has announced the signing of a historic agreement between Israel and Hamas that will come into force this Sunday, 19 January. The agreement will reportedly begin its first phase lasting 42 days, during which the terms of the next phase will be discussed, Newsru.co.il reports.
Under the terms of the first stage, Hamas is obliged to release 33 Israeli hostages, including all women, children and men over 50 years of age. According to the plan, the first three hostages will be released on 19 January, four on the following day, and then Hamas will return three hostages every week.
Additionally, it is stated that 600 trucks with humanitarian aid will enter the Gaza Strip daily, which is an important part of the agreement to support the local population.
Qatar and the United States acted as guarantors of the agreement, promising to facilitate the continuation of negotiations and ensure the full withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza. This agreement is of great importance not only for the direct parties to the conflict, but also for the entire region, as it can contribute to long-term stabilisation and a peaceful resolution of the protracted crisis.
