Announcement of Aid
The German government has announced a new package of military aid for Ukraine, including short- and medium-range Iris-T air defense systems and Leopard tanks. This announcement was made by Major General Christian Freyding on the German Armed Forces’ YouTube channel. According to him, Ukraine will receive two short- and medium-range air defense systems Iris-T, 16 self-propelled artillery systems of two types, and other weaponry by December 2024.

Details of the Aid Package
Germany plans to provide Ukraine with:

  • Two IRIS-M SAM batteries and two IRIS-T SLS;
  • 10 Gepard anti-aircraft systems;
  • 12 PzH 2000 and four Zuzana 2 self-propelled artillery systems;
  • RCH 155 self-propelled howitzer;
  • Approximately 30 Leopard 1A5 tanks;
  • 400 MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicles;
  • Logistic transport (trucks, tankers, off-road vehicles, pickups);
  • Drones and anti-drone systems;
  • MK 556 assault rifles;
  • Medical supplies and a field hospital.

Previous Deliveries and Refusals
Germany is one of the leading countries providing military aid to Ukraine. Previously, it was announced that Germany would supply an additional Patriot air defense system, with Ukraine receiving a quarter of Germany’s Patriot reserves. However, Berlin has refused to supply long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine.

The last aid package was provided in early June this year, including IRIS-T air defense systems, HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, and Leopard 1 tanks.
Germany continues to support Ukraine in its defense efforts, providing critical weapons and resources for its fight for independence.
