Ukrainian aviation conducted a precision strike on the command post of one of the units of the 3rd Motorised Rifle Division of the 20th Army of the Russian Armed Forces. This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on 20 March.
The command centre, which was located near Demydivka in the Belgorod region, was completely destroyed. The Russian military used this facility to plan and conduct hostilities against Ukraine, including attacks on the Sumy region.
A strategic blow to Russian governance
According to the General Staff, the elimination of the command post significantly reduces the combat capability of Russian units in this area.
“The enemy used this facility to control the actions of its troops in Sumy region. Its destruction greatly complicates the coordination of Russian troops in the region and reduces the effectiveness of their offensive operations,” the statement said.
The Ukrainian military emphasises that strikes on key elements of Russia’s military infrastructure will continue until Russia’s aggression is completely stopped.
A series of attacks on Russian military facilities
The strike was a continuation of a large-scale campaign by the Ukrainian Ar med Forces to destroy critical Russian military facilities. The day before, the General Staff of Ukraine confirmed the damage to the Engels strategic airfield in Saratov region. Explosions, a fire and ammunition detonation were recorded there, which probably damaged Russian strategic aviation.
Will this change the situation at the front?
The destruction of the command post of the 3rd Motorised Infantry Division could significantly weaken the Russian command in the border region. This is yet another proof that Ukraine is actively fighting not only on the frontline, but also on the territory of the aggressor itself.
Whether Russia will be able to quickly regain control in this area is an open question. However, such strikes have already been demonstrated: The Ukrainian Armed Forces are capable of operating deep behind enemy lines, undermining their ability to wage war.
