Incident with Russian Passenger at Ben-Gurion
A Russian national arriving at Ben-Gurion Airport was denied entry into Israel and subsequently assaulted an employee of the Population and Immigration Authority (Rashut Ha-Okhlusin Ve-Hagira). Her Israeli companion also displayed aggression and threatened border officials. Both offenders were detained: the woman was handed over to the police, while her partner was held for further questioning.
Air Travel Situation in Israel: Stabilization
Earlier reports indicated that due to security concerns, several international airlines, including Delta and United, suspended their flights to Israel. Currently, around 50% of international airlines have halted their flights, but the situation has stabilized, and most stranded passengers have returned. Ben-Gurion Airport is now handling approximately 56,500 passengers on 336 international flights.
Future Outlook
Oren Cohen Maguri, Vice President of Marketing at Flying Carpet, noted that despite concerns about potential flight cancellations, Israelis are not canceling their vacation plans. Demand for flights is expected to rise after Tisha B’Av, with passenger numbers potentially exceeding 70,000 per day. Airlines anticipate a revival of activity in September and during the holidays, provided the security situation does not worsen.
Holiday Prices: September Discounts
Maguri also mentioned that prices for vacations in September are significantly lower than in August. For instance, a holiday in Crete, which cost $949 per person in August, will be available for $499 for a family package (two adults and two children) in September.
