More than two dozen countries may join an international coalition to support Ukraine, which will help stabilise the country after the war with Russia ends. This was stated by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the BBC reports.
According to him, within the framework of the initiative led by the UK and France, some countries are ready to provide assistance to Ukraine in the post-war period, including the possible deployment of peacekeeping troops to Ukrainian territory. However, Starmer clarified that not all participating states plan to send military units – some countries will provide financial, logistical or humanitarian support.
“If a peace agreement is reached, it is very important to make sure that we protect it. This means that Ukraine must remain in the strongest possible position,” the British Prime Minister stressed.
- Shared security with the US and Europe
Keir Starmer stressed that the success of such a defence plan is impossible without close cooperation with the United States and European partners. He noted that this cooperation has been the basis of stability and peace in Europe for more than 80 years.
“Our joint approach with America and our allies must ensure that no threat goes unanswered,” Starmer added.
The draft international coalition is still at an early stage of discussions, and a specific list of participating countries or details of the plan have not yet been disclosed.
This initiative could become one of the key international mechanisms for ensuring lasting peace and security in Ukraine after the war.
