Two masked men carried out a brazen attack on the British royal estate in Windsor last month, stealing two cars. The incident occurred on the night of 12-13 October, when King Charles and his wife Camilla were away from the estate, while their son, Prince William, and his family were staying at Adelaide Cottage, which is part of the Windsor Castle complex.
Car theft and burglary
According to the British newspaper The Sun, the attackers entered an agricultural building on the estate, where they stole a black Izuzu pick-up truck and a red quad bike. Using a truck to break through the security gates, they scaled a fence almost two metres high before fleeing the scene, heading towards Old Windsor and Datchet.
Police responded to the theft shortly before midnight. A police press release stated that the perpetrators fled the scene, but no one has been arrested. The investigation is ongoing.
Previous security incidents
This case was another incident that drew attention to security issues at royal estates. Earlier in 2021, a man with a crossbow was detained on the grounds of Windsor Castle, claiming he intended to kill Queen Elizabeth.
Representatives of the British royal family are currently refraining from commenting on the incident.
This brazen attack was yet another reminder of the need to strengthen security measures in such important and symbolic places for the country.
