Canberra, 24 February 2025 – Australia has announced the implementation of the most extensive package of sanctions against Russia since February 2022. In response to the ongoing aggression against Ukraine, the Australian government has imposed restrictions on 70 individuals and 79 organisations directly linked to supporting Russia’s illegal invasion.
This was reported on the official website of the Australian government.
“Australia has been clear from day one that Russia and all those who facilitate its illegal invasion of Ukraine will face consequences. Today we have announced new sanctions to hold those involved in the aggression to account,” the statement said.
Who was affected by the new sanctions?
Sanctions against individuals:
– Representatives of Russia’s illegal administrations in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine (Crimea, Donbas).
– The so-called ‘ministers’, ‘judges’ and ‘prosecutors’ of the pseudo-republics.
– Persons responsible for sexual violence committed during the conflict.
– They were involved in the forced deportation of Ukrainian childrento the territory of the Russian Federation.
Sanctions against organisations:
– Structures that provide logistical support to the Russian army.
– Legal entities involved in the construction of military infrastructure in the occupied territories.
– Companies involved in Russia’s military cooperation with North Korea.
Special attention to the Russian-North Korean alliance
The Australian authorities have also highlighted the threat of deepening military cooperation between Russia and the DPRK.
“This dangerous expansion of Russian aggression has serious implications not only for European but also for Indo-Pacific security,” the Australian government said.
According to the information, the sanctions also affected those involved in recruiting and sending North Korean soldiers to the frontline in Ukraine.
Australia continues to support Ukraine
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Australia has imposed more than 1,400 sanctions on Russian individuals and entities. In addition to economic restrictions, the country is actively providing assistance to Ukraine.
USD 1.5 billion is the total amount of Australian support:
– 1.3 billion dollarsin military aid: machinery, equipment, weapons.
– Funding for training programmes for the Ukrainian military.
– Humanitarian aid to Ukrainians affected by the war.
“We will not leave Ukraine alone. Australia supports its fight for freedom and independence,” said the Australian Prime Minister.

– Australia plans to work more closely with its G7 and EU partners to coordinate sanctions policy.
– The possibility of further restrictions on Russian energy companies is being considered.
– Support for Ukraine will continue until its territorial integrity is fully restored.
