Belarus Accuses Ukraine of Military Buildup at Border, Threatens Retaliatory Measures
Belarusian authorities have issued a new provocative statement, further escalating the already tense situation at the Ukrainian border. Colonel Vadim Lukashevich, Deputy Commander of Special Operations Forces for Ideological Work of the Belarusian Armed Forces, accused Ukraine of amassing troops and military equipment near the border in the Zhytomyr region. According to him, Ukraine has also allegedly created gaps in minefields for diversionary and reconnaissance groups (DRGs).
Lukashevich warned that Belarus would “block and destroy” such groups if detected. These statements were reported by the state news agency BELTA, adding fuel to the fire amid growing tensions.
“A coalition of Western countries has ignited a hot conflict near our territory. They are trying to drag our country into war,” Lukashevich asserted, adding that Belarus is doing everything possible to maintain peace on its soil.
A particularly intriguing part of Lukashevich’s statement was his claim that American infantry fighting vehicles, multiple rocket launchers, heavy long-range artillery, and other equipment are stationed in the Zhytomyr region. These remarks resonate loudly against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict, where Ukraine continues to resist aggression.
Lukashevich cynically called the construction of fortifications by the Ukrainian Armed Forces “publicity,” sparking a wide reaction. It is important to remember that information disseminated by Belarusian officials does not always reflect reality and may be part of a propaganda campaign.
Observers around the world are watching the unfolding events with bated breath, as each new statement could dramatically change the situation in Eastern Europe. How events will develop further remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the tension at the Belarusian-Ukrainian border continues to grow.
