On Easter Sunday, 20 April, US President Donald Trump made a series of posts on his social media platform Truth Social. In his congratulations, traditionally combined with political attacks, he promised to make America “bigger and more religious” and spoke harshly of former President Joe Biden.

From greetings to insults

Trump first congratulated Americans on Easter on behalf of himself and his wife Melania, wishing “peace and joy to all who celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ”. But in the very next post , he went on to attack the “radical left”, accusing them of “wanting to bring murderers, drug lords, dangerous prisoners, the mentally ill, MS-13 gang members and family abusers back into the country”.

Trump also criticised Joe Biden’s policies, calling him “sleepy”, “the worst and most incompetent US president”, and “a destructive jerk”. At the end of the post, Trump did “wish Biden a happy Easter”.

“Bigger, more religious, more powerful”

In another Easter address, Trump reiterated his key campaign promise to make America great again, but added new emphasis:

“Together, we will make America bigger, better, stronger, richer, healthier, and more religious than ever before!” the president wrote.

Earlier, Trump had expressed territorial claims to Greenland, and – jokingly or not – mentioned Canada as an “interesting option for expansion”.
