Syria, 7 March 2025 – Large-scale clashes have broken out in Syria following attacks by supporters of the Bashar al-Assad regime on a number of regions of the country. According to Bloomberg, at least 48 people were killed, including four civilians.
The attacks took place in strategically important areas, including the port city of Latakia, as well as in Tartus, Homs and other settlements along the Mediterranean coast.
According to media reports, the attacks were pre-planned and targeted a number of security targets in Jabla and surrounding areas. The clashes damaged public buildings, government offices and private property.
Curfews and detentions
Immediately after the attacks began, a curfew was imposed in Latakia and nearby towns to contain the escalation of violence. According to the latest reports, three attackers were detained in Latakia.
Official reaction
Syrian Defence Ministry spokesperson Hassan Abdul-Ghani called on supporters of the regime to lay down their arms and stop the attacks.
At the same time, rallies in support of the current government were held in the cities of Damascus, Idlib and Hama. The participants of the rallies called for stabilisation of the situation in the country and an end to internal clashes.
These events have become another manifestation of tensions in Syria, where, despite years of war, there remains a high level of conflict between different political and religious groups. The situation remains volatile, and international observers are calling for an immediate end to the violence and a return to dialogue.
