The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide Ukraine with a €300 million loan to purchase 50 new electric locomotives for Ukrzaliznytsia, Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development Timur Tkachenko has announced. According to him, an additional 30 electric locomotives will be purchased through grant funding under the World Bank’s RELINC project, which aims to restore critical logistics infrastructure. The total amount of funding for the RELINC project will be USD 190 million.
Tkachenko also stressed that thanks to the Single Portfolio of Investment Projects (SPP), the government is able to attract international partners to implement priority infrastructure projects.
Arvid Turkner, Managing Director of the EBRD in Ukraine and Moldova, stressed the importance of consistent coordination of all details of joint projects to ensure their effective implementation.
During the meeting, representatives of the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development and the EBRD discussed the timing of the signing of the agreements and the issue of guarantee arrangements. The EBRD, together with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), plans to continue supporting concession projects in the Ukrainian ports of Olvia and Chornomorsk as part of its strategy to modernise and develop Ukraine’s logistics infrastructure.
