Ford Motor Co. has announced a recall of 272,827 Bronco and Maverick vehicles due to a power problem that could lead to a sudden stall or inability to start the vehicle. This was reported by the Associated Press with reference to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The cause was a defect in the batteries manufactured by Camel Battery. According to the NHTSA, the batteries have “internal manufacturing defects” that can cause sudden loss of power, including the failure of hazard lights.
The recalled vehicles were manufactured between February 2021 and October 2023, when Ford stopped using these batteries. It is preliminarily believed that the defect affected only 1% of cars equipped with these batteries.
This recall is a continuation of the previous one, which covered 2021-23 Ford Bronco Sport SUVs and 2022-2023 Ford Maverick pickups. The company was fined by the US government for delays in responding to past incidents. In November, Ford pledged to improve its recall decision-making process and agreed to three years of oversight by an independent third party.
Consumers are advised to check whether their vehicle is covered by this recall and contact their dealers to have the fault rectified.
