Meta Platforms has agreed to pay $25 million to settle a lawsuit filed by Donald Trump in 2021 after his Facebook and Instagram accounts were blocked. Of this amount, $22 million will be used to create the Trump Presidential Library, and the rest will cover legal fees and compensation to other plaintiffs, the WSJ reports .

The blocking of Trump’s accounts followed the events of 6 January 2021, when his supporters stormed the Capitol. Meta restored access to Trump’s accounts in February 2023 after a two-year ban.

The deal is part of Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s efforts to improve relations with the Trump administration. Earlier, the company donated $1 million to Trump’s inauguration and eased the rules for content moderation on its platforms.
