The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Elbit Systems Ltd. for the purchase of advanced drones and autonomous defence systems. According to the ministry, the new technologies should significantly improve the operational capabilities of the military on the battlefield, The Jerusalem Post reports.
Innovations for intelligence gathering and precision strikes
The systems were developed in collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Directorate (DDR&D) and the Army’s ground forces. They include innovative intelligence gathering and precision strike capabilities, making them a key tool for modern military operations.
“We strive to modernise our forces with the best technologies that provide an operational advantage and ensure accuracy and efficiency on the battlefield,” the ministry said in an official statement.
The procurement covers various models of drones, including:
- Reconnaissance drones for information gathering;
- Strike drones capable of carrying out pinpoint attacks;
- Small drones designed for operations in urban environments.
Advantages of using drones
Brigadier General Yehuda Elmakias, Head of DDR&D, stressed the importance of using drones in modern warfare:
“The world of drones makes it possible to carry out reconnaissance and strike missions at minimal cost, with high accuracy and on a large scale.”
Haim Delmar, Executive Vice President of C4I Systems and Cyber Development at Elbit, said that the new contracts demonstrate a high level of confidence in the company’s innovative technologies:
“These systems provide reliability, efficiency and promising capabilities to improve security and control on the battlefield.”
A step towards the future
The procurement of advanced autonomous systems is part of the army’s modernisation strategy, which focuses on integrating robotics, artificial intelligence and autonomous technologies into modern military infrastructure. This will help to strengthen defence capabilities and strengthen positions in the modern world of military innovation.
