US President Donald Trump said he was not worried about a possible rise in prices for imported cars after the introduction of new duties on 2 April. The politician said this in an interview with NBC News.
The White House is preparing to impose additional tariffs on a number of imported goods, including cars, which could lead to higher prices.
“I hope they raise prices because then people will buy cars made in America,” Trump said.
In his opinion, the customs policy will help revive the US auto industry and reduce the trade deficit. The politician also noted that he is ready to revise the duties, but only if the US receives favourable terms from its international partners in return.
The decision to increase duties has drawn criticism from world leaders who fear trade conflicts and rising inflation. At the same time, US automakers may gain a significant advantage in the domestic market.
