Ottawa, Canada – A campaign to revoke Elon Musk ‘s Canadian citizenship is gaining momentum in Canada. The petition has been signed by more than 50,000 citizens who accuse the billionaire of actions contrary to the country’s national interests. This was reported by Anadolu.

Charges against Musk

The petition, created by writer Qualia Reid and supported by New Democratic Party (NDP) MP Charlie Angus, calls on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to revokeMusk’s Canadian citizenship, which he received through his mother’s side of the family.

The document claims that Elon Musk:

“Using his wealth and influence to interfere in Canadian elections”.

“Part of a foreign government that seeks to undermine Canada’s sovereignty.”

“Engaged in activities contrary to the national interests of the country”.

The petition’s organisers believe that Musk, as a senior adviser to US President Donald Trump, may use his influence to support political forces that threaten Canada’s democratic foundations.

Key allegations include influence on politics and elections

One of the main concerns is that Musk has vast media resources – including Platform X (formerly Twitter) – that can influence public opinion and the political process. The petition notes that Musk allegedly “promotes disinformation” and “provides a platform for radical views” that could destabilise the political situation in Canada.

When will the petition be considered?

The petition is scheduled to be submitted to the House of Commons on 20 June. If the document receives official consideration, the Canadian government will be obliged to respond to the allegations.

The reaction of Musk and the authorities

So far, Elon Musk has not officially commented on the situation. At the same time, his representatives consider the accusations to be “groundless” and “politically motivated”.

The Canadian government also did not give a clear answer on the possibility of revoking Musk’s citizenship. Justin Trudeau limited himself to a general statement:

“Canada is a country that respects freedom of speech, but we strongly oppose any attempts to interfere with our democratic processes,” thePrime Minister said.

Can Mask be deprived of citizenship?

Canadian law allows for the revocation of citizenship in exceptional cases involving terrorism, espionage or actions that threaten national security. However, cases of deprivation of citizenship for political reasons are extremely rare.

Analysts believe that even if the petition garners significant support, the government is unlikely to make such a decision without solid legal grounds.
