In an interview with nv.ua, a well-known Ukrainian producer and music journalist Vitaliy Bardetskiy expressed the opinion that rapper Potap will not be able to return to his former glory on the Ukrainian stage. According to Bardetsky, the artist, who has been living abroad for a long time, has lost touch with the Ukrainian public and the realities of the modern music industry.
“Potap just doesn’t understand what’s going on here anymore. Of course, he will have some audience, but it will be small and marginal. He will not return to the level he once had,” Bardetsky said.
The producer also noted that the music industry in Ukraine has undergone significant changes due to the full-scale invasion, and current artists are working with a new set of sounds that are different from those used by Potap. “From the point of view of musicology, the sound that Potap offered has become completely archaic today, especially for younger generations,” he added.
Despite this, Potap has announced a tour of his old songs in US cities, trying to find a new audience among immigrants. But, according to Bardetsky, even these attempts will not help him return to his former positions in Ukraine, as he is no longer “in the context” of current events and musical trends that are currently relevant in the country.
