Russia’s shelling of Ukraine’s port infrastructure in October 2024 caused $30-40 million in damage to Ukraine, First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotskyi said at a briefing at the Ukraine Media Centre on 25 October.

“It is difficult to give an accurate final estimate because the data is still being updated. But it is already clear that the losses amount to tens of millions of dollars. The preliminary estimate of the latest shelling is $30-40 million,” Vysotsky said.

The total losses of the agricultural sector since the beginning of the war amount to about $82bn, with losses in the grain industry estimated at $500-600m, the official added. He expressed hope that war risk insurance introduced by the government and supported by international private companies would help compensate for the losses of agribusiness.

“All losses are recorded in accordance with international law. The amount that the aggressor must compensate is already hundreds of billions of dollars, and we are confident that these funds will be returned,” Vysotsky concluded.
