In early June, Ukraine saw a further reduction in the price of greenhouse cucumbers, due to an increase in supply from summer greenhouses. This is reported by EastFruit.
Prices for greenhouse cucumbers are currently 30-55 UAH/kg (USD 0.72-1.33/kg), depending on the variety and batch size. This is on average 21% cheaper than a week ago.
The main reason for the decline, analysts say, is the seasonal increase in supply from local farms. According to experts, the collapse in prices coincided with the final phase of cucumber sales in the first crop rotation, which allowed producers to avoid more serious losses.
“Today, greenhouse companies are actively cleaning greenhouses, and the second crop rotation is planned to be implemented in the second half of summer,” EastFruit said.
Despite the week-on-week drop in price, compared to June 2024, greenhouse cucumbers are now 37% more expensive. This is due to higher energy costs, logistics and the general rise in the price of vegetables in the off-season.
