Norway has decided to allocate 50 million Norwegian kroner to support the Ukrainian food security programme Grain from Ukraine, which is an important element of food supply for many countries in Africa and the Middle East. This was reported on the official Time Ukraine Israel portal, citing the Norwegian edition of NRK.

The Grain from Ukraine programme is crucial for ensuring food security in regions that have been most affected by the effects of global crises and food supply disruptions. Ukraine, known as one of the largest grain exporters in the world, actively supplies its products to countries where food shortages are a serious problem. Grain and oil from Ukraine are becoming the main components of food security for millions of people in the Middle East and Africa.

As noted by Norway’s Minister of Development, Ann Beate Christiansen Tveinnerheim, providing financial support to Ukraine is an important step not only to stabilise Ukrainian agriculture, which is suffering from the war, but also to ensure the global food balance.

“A free Ukraine is a key link in global food security. Grain and oil from Ukraine help feed millions in countries where food problems are extremely acute. Norway continues to support this important process, while helping Ukraine to rebuild and preserve its war-ravaged agriculture,” the Minister said.

Norway is also actively working to increase self-sufficiency in Africa and the Middle East to reduce dependence on external supplies and make these regions more resilient to global food crises.

This step is part of Norway’s broader strategy to not only support Ukraine but also help overcome global food security challenges through cooperation with other countries.
