The US Department of Defence has announced its intention to use all remaining funds earmarked for support programmes for Ukraine before the end of President Joe Biden’s term. This was announced at a briefing by Deputy Pentagon Spokesperson Sabrina Singh.

“We still have about $2 billion left in the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) that we can use. You will see further aid packages coming in the coming weeks, before the end of this administration,” Singh said. She reminded that assistance to Ukraine is provided on a regular, almost weekly basis, and that the support from the United States is only part of the international assistance that continues to flow.

Singh also stressed that Ukraine enjoys bicameral and bipartisan support in Congress, which is a strong signal of continued US support, even after the change of administration in January.

When asked about the availability of weapons stockpiles and the possibility of timely use of the $4 billion PDA (Presidential Decision Authority for Defence Assets Transfer), the official confirmed that the Pentagon would be able to implement this assistance before the deadline. She also assured that the United States is actively replenishing its weapons stockpile to maintain its own defence capabilities.

This decision is part of the Biden Administration’s strategy to provide maximum support to Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression and reaffirms the United States’ commitment to the Ukrainian people.
