This week, potato prices in Ukraine increased by an average of 12%, reaching the level of 20-30 UAH/kg (USD 0.48-0.71/kg). This rise is due to the overall reduction in supply on the market, according to EastFruit experts.

Many Ukrainian producers who were unable to store potatoes for long periods of time have already sold them at the beginning of the current season. This, in turn, led to an increase in selling prices.

“Since the beginning of this week, prices have risen by 12% compared to last week. Wholesalers are facing a shortage of quality potatoes, which leads to higher prices on the market,” experts say.

The main reason for the problems with potato quality was unfavourable weather conditions during harvest, in particular, prolonged rains, which worsened the presentation of the vegetables and their ability to be stored for a long time. Most farmers used planting material of poor quality, which also affected the results.

Potato prices in Ukraine are now 16% higher than at the beginning of 2024, and analysts predict that they may rise further due to a possible shortage of quality potatoes on the market.
