Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the World Bank has provided more than USD 40 billion to Ukraine. This was announced by the Minister of Finance of Ukraine, Sergii Marchenko, during a meeting with the World Bank’s Managing Director for Operations, Anna Bjerde, and the Bank’s Vice President for Europe and Central Asia, Antonella Bassani, in Kyiv.

According to Marchenko, these funds allowed to partially finance social and humanitarian expenditures of the state budget, as well as to contribute to the restoration of Ukraine. The Minister also stressed that despite the difficult conditions of the war, the Government of Ukraine remains committed to reforms and accession to the European Union, and the World Bank remains one of the main partners in the implementation of these tasks.

Cooperation and reforms
The meeting discussed not only the results of long-term cooperation but also plans for 2025. One of the key areas of cooperation is the joint work within the framework of the Reforms Matrix tool, which contains more than 300 reforms with measurable indicators. This will help accelerate Ukraine’s economic development, increase innovation and engage the private sector to help the country recover faster from Russia’s aggression.

Marchenko stressed that fulfilling Ukraine’s commitments to its international partners will help not only to restore the economy but also to strengthen Ukraine’s position in the international arena.
