Ukraine currently has access to agricultural exports through 340 trade destinations, and in the next five years it is planned to open new markets and increase export potential. This was announced by Serhiy Tkachuk, Head of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, at the Kyiv International Economic Forum.
“We are one of the key people in the country responsible for opening new markets. We are currently working with more than 60 countries on plant and animal products. Our plans include the opening of 240 new markets over the next five years,” said Tkachuk.
He also noted that as part of Ukraine’s integration into the EU, Chapter 12, which deals with food security, veterinary and phytosanitary policy, accounts for 19% of the total requirements to be met by Ukraine. According to Tkachuk, the service is responsible for controlling 100% of Ukraine’s agricultural exports.
Implementation of EU requirements is an important priority for Ukraine, he said, stressing the need to maintain stable trade with partners and remove barriers to exports. In addition, simplification of certification and transit procedures is an important component.
“The digitalisation of processes and services will significantly reduce the time required to obtain permits from 5-20 days to 1-5 days. Certain services, such as capacity registration, will be provided in real time, in a few minutes,” added Tkachuk.
With these steps, Ukraine intends to significantly increase its export potential and reduce administrative barriers to business, which will undoubtedly contribute to the country’s economic growth.
