The first tranche of €428 million under the so-called “Danish model” of defence aid will be used to produce weapons in Ukraine, including artillery, attack drones, anti-tank weapons and missiles. This was announced by Ukraine’s Defence Minister Rustem Umerov on Facebook.

“This is an investment in victory. The weapons produced in Ukraine are the weapons that protect the whole of Europe,” Umerov stressed.

The funding comes from Denmark, Sweden, Canada, Norway and Iceland. By 2025, the total amount of support will reach €1.3 billion, partly from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets.

What is the Danish model?

This is a unique format of direct support for the Ukrainian defence industry, which allows partners to invest directly in domestic arms production. According to Umerov, this is not just financial assistance, but recognition of the potential of the Ukrainian defence industry.

This result became possible after Umerov’s talks with Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen.

Strategic investment initiatives are also being prepared: Ukrainian defence companies will be able to enter the markets of the Ramstein format countries, and European manufacturers will be able to set up production in Ukraine.
