The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Competitive Economy of Ukraine Programme has announced the launch of a new $1.8 million initiative to support training and employment of Ukrainians. This was reported by the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine.
“USAID is committed to promoting Ukraine’s economic development through investments in skills development that meet current market needs and engaging the private sector in this process,” said Julie Cohnen, USAID Mission Director to Ukraine.
The new initiative focuses on upskilling and retraining, with a particular emphasis on young people, veterans, people with disabilities and internally displaced people, helping them to realise their potential in the fastest growing sectors of the economy. The programme also supports women seeking to acquire skills in traditionally male-dominated professions.
“According to Gradus Research, 88% of Ukrainians are ready to change their profession, with 45% of women considering working in areas previously dominated by men,” said Yulia Svyrydenko, First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Ukraine.
The programme, which is being implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, focuses on training specialists for critical sectors of the country’s recovery, including construction and logistics. The initiative has eight components, each with a budget of $230,000, and will run from November 2024 to June 2025.
Companies and organisations can apply to participate in one or more project areas, including building the HR community, professional development, partnerships with the private sector, and support for vulnerable groups.
