On 17 February, Elon Musk’s xAI company presented its newest flagship artificial intelligence model Grok 3 and announced new features for web applications. This was reported by TechCrunch.
Grok 3 is xAI’s response to leading AI models such as OpenAI’s GPT-4o and Google’s Gemini. The new model is capable of analysing images, answering complex questions, and integrating with the Musk X social network.
According to Musk, Grok 3 has 10 times the computing power of its predecessor Grok 2 and is powered by an expanded training data set.
Main features and benefits of Grok 3
The Grok 3 is part of a whole family of models. The Grok 3 mini version provides faster responses at the expense of compromising on accuracy.
According to the test results, the Grok 3 outperforms the GPT-4o in the following categories:
– AIMEtest evaluates the model’s ability to solve mathematical problems
– GPQA– assesses performance in physics, biology and chemistry at the PhD level
– Chatbot Arena is acrowdsourcing test where users evaluate the answers of different AI models
In addition, Grok 3 introduced two new versions:
– Grok 3 Reasoning
– Grok 3 mini Reasoning
These models are capable of “thinking” about problems, similar to OpenAI’s o3-mini and DeepSeek’s R1. Grok 3 also tries to verify facts before delivering results, which allows it to avoid common mistakes made by competitors.
Advanced features and tariffs
Grok 3 supports a “big brain” mode that enables complex calculations and reasoning. xAI has also implemented anti-distortion protection, a technique used by AI developers to extract knowledge from other models.
The cost of access to Grok 3:
– Premium+ subscription ($50/month) – first access to the new model
– New SuperGrok tariff ($30/month or $300/year) – advanced features, more reasoning queries, DeepSearch and unlimited image generation
What’s next?
Elon Musk said that Grok will have a “voice mode” in a week, which will add the ability to synthesise voice.
In a few weeks, Grok 3 will be available for corporate clients via the xAI API.
As a reminder, in May 2024, xAI raised $6 billion in a Series B funding round, which was one of the largest investments in the field of artificial intelligence.
