The European Commission (EC) accuses Apple of violating the Digital Markets Act (DMA) by restricting app developers from directing users to alternative content sources.
DMA Requirements and Impact
Implemented in March, the DMA requires developers to inform users about cheaper options and allow purchases outside the App Store. EC Vice President Margrethe Vestager criticized Apple, claiming these practices restrict consumer choice and deepen developer dependence on its platform.
Apple’s Response and Potential Consequences
Apple has the opportunity to respond. If found guilty, Apple could face fines up to 10% of its global revenue. Apple states it has adjusted operations to comply with the DMA, offering developers lower fees and alternative purchasing options
