In France, controversy has arisen over the attack on Priska Tavenot, the spokesperson for the French government, which occurred last week. The Nanterre Prosecutor’s Office is seeking preventive measures against two suspects involved in this attack. According to “The European Truth,” one of them, an adult, is already under investigation and detained pending trial. The minor has been charged and placed under judicial supervision with mandatory placement in a closed educational center.
The charges against the suspects include “violence against a public official with or without a weapon,” which occurred during a gathering, and “violence at a gathering involving the use of a weapon” against an activist. One of the suspects has two prior convictions for serious crimes, such as drug trafficking and theft.
Law enforcement continues to investigate the case, which has become part of heightened political tension ahead of early parliamentary elections. The attack on Tavenot and her team is one of several instances of aggression recorded during the electoral campaign, causing outrage among the political elite and the public.
The Prosecutor’s Office plans to actively pursue this case to ensure justice and accountability for the assault on representatives of France’s democratic institutions.
