The Palestinian terrorist group Hamas has accused the United States of America of spreading false information after Washington said that it was Hamas that broke the hostage deal, preferring to wage war against Israel. This was reported by The Times of Israel.

“The claim that ‘Hamas chose war over the release of hostages’ is a distortion of the facts,” the group said in a statement in response to the words of Brian Hughes, spokesman for the US National Security Council.

Hamas did not specify what alternative they proposed, but stressed that the responsibility for the ongoing confrontation allegedly lies with the Israeli side and its Western allies.

Washington’s position: no peace without demilitarisation

Against the backdrop of this statement, the media published an interview with US Presidential Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to journalist Tucker Carlson, in which he outlined Donald Trump’s vision of foreign policy towards the Middle East. According to him, the demilitarisation of Hamas is a key condition for achieving lasting peace in the region.

“If Israel believes that Hamas will remain in Gaza, the conflict will drag on indefinitely,” Vitkoff said.

Hamas’s statement came amid growing international pressure on the terrorist organisation and active discussion of a potential hostage and ceasefire agreement. However, the positions of the parties remain irreconcilable, and the prospects for a peaceful settlement are extremely uncertain.
