Since 18 March, after the end of the ceasefire in Gaza, Yemeni Houthis have launched rocket attacks against Israel, Channel 9 reports. Between now and 4 April, the militants fired 17 rockets towards Israeli territory.

The missile defence system worked

Israeli air defence systems intercepted 9 rockets. The remaining 8 missed their targets, falling before entering Israeli airspace. Although none of the rockets caused any damage, the situation in the region has escalated significantly.

The dangerous expansion of Houthi influence

At the same time, Israeli intelligence services are extremely concerned about the activation of the Houthis in the western Horn of Africa, especially in the area of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a key route for world trade.

According to media reports, hundreds of Houthi militants have already established themselves on the western coast, controlling strategic points. Their presence opens up new opportunities to influence sea routes leading to the Suez Canal and further to the Mediterranean Sea.

An unexpected alliance with the Sunnis?

Of particular concern is the information about the possible cooperation of the Houthis with the al-Shabab group, which has ties to ISIS. Despite ideological differences between Shiites and Sunnis, such an alliance could give the Houthis new tactical advantages on the African continent.

The threat to Israel – from land and sea

Israeli analysts warn that the Houthis may be moving towards Egypt and the Sinai Peninsula, preparing a potential platform for future attacks on Israel not only from the air but also from the sea.

“The formation of a strike base near the Red Sea is no longer a scenario, but a real threat,” Israeli intelligence sources say.

With the ongoing war in Gaza, Israel is watching the South more and more closely, as a new hotspot is already forming on the horizon.
