Yemeni military sources told the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar that the Houthi leaders responsible for the rocket attacks had been ordered to resume strikes on Israeli territory. According to them, this decision was made in response to new attacks by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip.

US strikes on the territory of Yemen

At the same time, the United States carried out air strikes on several targets in Yemen, in particular on the province of Sa’ada, which Yemeni sources call a long-standing hideout for Houthi leaders supporting Iran. The strikes also hit the port city of Hodeidah, located on the Red Sea coast.

The Houthi Al-Masirah television reported more than 10 air strikes on various targets, including the al-Safra district in Sa’ada province. According to Yemeni sources, weapons depots and training bases are located in this region, and the area is considered one of the key and most fortified military centres of the group.

Escalation of tension in the region

The US attacks in Yemen on Saturday night were the largest military operation by US forces in the Middle East since Donald Trump’s presidency. The strikes were carried out in response to Houthi attacks on international merchant ships in the Red Sea.

Since the outbreak of the war between Israel and Hamas in late 2023, the pro-Iranian Houthi group has carried out more than 100 attacks on ships, explaining their actions by supporting Palestinians in Gaza. These attacks severely disrupted global trade and forced the United States to launch a large-scale military campaign to intercept the missiles.

The situation in the region remains extremely tense, and further developments will depend on the responses of Israel, the United States and their allies to the Houthis’ actions.
