A senior representative of the Yemeni Houthis, Hazam al-Assad, published a threatening statement on the social network “X” after the IDF intercepted a missile launched from Yemen.
“Death to Israel,” al-Assad wrote, openly demonstrating the group’s intention to continue attacks on Israeli cities.
Conflict escalation: attacks, threats and US response
According to the IDF, air raid sirens sounded in several parts of Israel due to a Houthi missile attack. The Israeli military confirmed that the IDF successfully intercepted the threat before it crossed the Israeli border.
The attack was a response to recent attacks on Houthi targets in Yemen. Shortly after the attack, representatives of the group announced their readiness for new actions in Tel Aviv and called for the evacuation of the city, which only increased tensions in the region.
Washington urges Israel not to respond
Amid the escalation, the United States called on Israel to refrain from retaliating. According to Israeli sources, Washington insists that further actions should be left “at the discretion” of the US side.
At the same time, Yemeni military sources reported that the Houthi leadership had received an order to resume attacks on Israel. The regions from which the attacks are carried out include key weapons depots, training camps and fortified Houthi bases of strategic importance to the group.
A stark warning from Trump
US President Donald Trump also responded to the situation by sending a clear message to the Houthis. He said that Washington would not tolerate a threat to an ally and made it clear that the actions of the Iranian-backed group would have serious consequences.
What’s next?
The conflict between Israel and the Houthis is gaining momentum. While the US is trying to keep the situation under control, the Houthis themselves continue to demonstrate their determination to attack Israeli cities.
The Israeli government is currently refraining from immediate military action in response, but if the shelling continues, it could lead to a large-scale IDF operation against Houthi targets in Yemen.
