The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), together with the Israel Security Agency (ISA), announced the elimination of Mohammed Hassan Mohammed Awad, one of the highest-ranking commanders of the Palestinian Mujahideen terrorist organisation, directly involved in the mass terrorist attack on 7 October in the Israeli kibbutz Nir Oz.
Who is Mohammed Awad?
According to official information released by the IDF and ISA, Awad was a senior military intelligence officer in the Gaza Strip and had close ties to the leadership of the Palestinian Mujahideen terrorist group. He repeatedly infiltrated Israel during the 7 October attack, coordinating attacks, kidnappings and assassinations.
According to Israeli intelligence, Awad personally supervised the abduction of the Bibas family – Shiri, her children Kfir and Ariel – and was most likely involved in their murders. He was also responsible for the abduction and burial of Israelis Gad and Judy Lynn Weinstein, as well as several Thai nationals.
Elimination of a terrorist
The strikes on Awad were carried out earlier in the day. This was part of a broader Israeli operation against the leaders of terrorist groups in the Gaza Strip who took part in the 7 October massacre.
According to the IDF, Awad also recruited terrorists in Judea, Samaria and Israel, through whom he planned and carried out attacks against civilians and the military.
Military operation continues
The IDF stressed that it will continue to identify and eliminate all terrorists involved in the massacres, hostage-taking and other atrocities committed during the 7 October attack.
It is also reported that the Israeli Air Force recently intercepted an unmanned aerial vehicle approaching Israeli territory from the east.
The IDF will continue to act decisively to ensure Israel’s security and justice for atrocities against civilians.
