The press service of the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) reported an air strike on a military facility in the Kardah region of Syria. According to official information, the target was a warehouse where weapons belonging to the Bashar al-Assad regime were stored.
“The decision to launch the strike was made in light of recent developments in the region,” the IDF said in a statement.
This is not the first such incident in recent times. The day before, Syrian media reported powerful explosions in the port of Tartus, for which Israel was also blamed, although there was no official confirmation from the IDF.
The strike on Kardakhi was a continuation of a series of Israeli operations against military facilities in Syria, which are actively used for the transit of weapons and support of pro-Iranian groups, including Hezbollah.
Since 2013, the IDF has been regularly striking targets in Syria, destroying weapons arsenals, military depots, air defence systems and convoys that could threaten Israel’s security.
According to analysts, given the deteriorating situation in northern Israel and Iran’s activity in the region, strikes on Syria may become even more frequent in the near future.
