Israeli warplanes have been in the spotlight since the events of October 7, when Hamas terrorists attacked Israel. The Jerusalem Post criticized the air force for its inadequate defense of the Gaza border that day, noting that only Israel Defense Forces (IDF) helicopters were involved in repulsing the attack.

Helicopter units began providing fire support to Beeri residents at 8:30 am. Five helicopters moved between various points along the border, including Nahal Oz, Holit, Nir Oz and Kerem Shalom. However, due to the delay in arrival, their options were limited, as the terrorists had already managed to mix with Israeli civilians.

In the initial stages, the helicopter pilots did not realize the scale of the invasion. They thought they were helping with a minor incident at the border where a Palestinian protest got out of hand. After arriving in Nahal Oz and encountering large numbers of Hamas fighters crossing the border, the helicopters began active pursuit and destruction of the terrorists.

Despite this, the situation remained uncertain: Hamas terrorists continued to cross the border, mixing with local residents, making it difficult for pilots to identify targets.

Defense Minister Yoav Galant supported the creation of a state commission to investigate the October 7 incidents.

Time Ukraine Israel, referring to the cursorinfo source, reports on these events, emphasizing the importance of a quick and effective response of the armed forces in such situations.
