While the world is watching the political uncertainty in the US and the delay in military support for Ukraine, Ireland is demonstrating a clear position: the aid will continue. According to RTÉ News, the Irish government has approved an additional €100 million aid package for Ukraine, which will be used to purchase non-lethal military equipment and support defence needs.

“This is a very, very serious situation,” said Deputy Prime Minister of Ireland Simon Harris, commenting on the suspension of US aid. According to him, Dublin has decided to step up its support for Ukraine without delay so that Ukrainian defenders are not left without the necessary resources at a critical time.

Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin called the situation with the US a “serious setback”, but emphasised: “What is needed now is even more engagement between all those who support Ukraine.”

The new aid package will include the supply of protective gear, medical supplies, transport and equipment for the needs of the Ukrainian military, who are deterring Russian aggression on a daily basis.

For Ireland, which traditionally adheres to a policy of neutrality, this decision is another confirmation of political and moral support for Ukraine. Against the backdrop of geopolitical challenges, Dublin is making it clear that it will not be indifferent.

The Ukrainian authorities have already thanked Ireland for its consistent assistance and active role in supporting the civilian population and the country’s defence capabilities.
