On the night of 27 March, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), together with the Israeli Security Service (Shabak), conducted a targeted operation in the northern Gaza Strip, during which Abd al-Latif Rajab Jumaa Qana, a Hamas spokesman and active member of the terrorist group’s military wing, was killed.
This is stated in a joint statement by the IDF and ISA, which was published this morning.
According to Israeli forces, Kanu has been one of Hamas’ main propaganda mouthpieces for many years. He has actively used media platforms to spread disinformation, incite violence, psychological terror and promote an ideology that calls for the destruction of Israel.
“Kanu was not just a spokesman. He was part of the Hamas war machine, which operated not only with weapons but also with words,” the Israeli army said.
The operation that targeted Qana was part of a broader campaign aimed at dismantling Hamas’ political and military infrastructure in the Gaza Strip. The IDF and Shabak have declared their determination to continue targeted strikes against the group’s leadership.
According to experts, this strike has not only military but also symbolic significance – the elimination of Hamas’ main media face undermines the group’s ability to influence the information field and mobilise support through propaganda.
